This pattern is inspired by a traditional embroidery from Northwestern Bulgarian from a woman’s shirt. The tree of life, or the holy tree, is an ancient universal symbol, and it is often used in various forms in Bulgarian traditional embroidery. Even though with the centuries it has lost its meaning, the embroidery was meant to bring health and prosperity, happy marital life and children. It was often embroidered on hand towels given as wedding gifts and on the skirt bottom of women’s linen shirts.
